Winning start of Chattogram Acme in franchise hockey opener

Chattogram Acme got off to a winning start in the maiden franchise-based Hockey Champions Trophy when they beat Saif Power Group Khulna by 3-2 goals held Friday at Moulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium.

Devinder Wakmiki of India and Mohammad Hafiz of Malaysia played a vital role behind the victory of Acme Chattogram. Devinder missed the penalty stroke in the 24th minute but later scored from the penalty corner and kept the Khulna defense busy although the proceeding. Malaysia’s Mohammad Hafiz won the man of the match award for his impressive performance in the match.

Indian forward Devinder Walmiki put Acme Chattogram ahead converting a penalty corner in the 26th minute while Tanzim Ahmed restored the parity for Saif Power Group Khulna after a rebound shot taken by skipper Khorshedur Rahman came to his way in the 34th minute of the match.

Acme Chattogram again took the lead when Devinder Walmiki scored his second goal converting a penalty corner in the 38th minute.

German striker Florian Elvis further widened Acme Chattogram’s margin scoring the third goal after taking a pass from Razib Das in the 53rd minute.

Khulna’s skipper Khorshedur Rahman aroused some hope scoring the second goal for his team one minute before the final whistle, but it was not enough to skip the defeat and eventually they had to leave the field with defeat.
