Two matches of Green Delta Insurance First Division Hockey League were decided on the first day (Saturday) at Maulana Bhasani National Hockey Stadium.
On the day’s first match, Dhaka Wanderars Club blanked Shantinagar Sporting Club by 3-0 goals with Iqbal Nader Prince scored the first hat-trick in the league scoring all three goals in the 51st, 54th and 58th minutes for the winners’.
While Usha Krira Chakra thrashed Rayer Bazar Sporting Club by 8-0 goals in the day’s second match of the opening day’s fixture.
In the day’s match, Habib Hossain scored hat-trick with three goals in the 37th, 44th and 48th minutes and Debasish Kumar Roy and Tayeb Ali struck twice each in the 27th and 38th and 42nd and 49th minutes respectively while Hujaifa Hossain netted the lone goal in the 13th minute for Usha in the one- sided affairs.
Earlier, Mozaffar Hossain Paltu, chairman of youth and sports affairs sub- committee of Bangladesh Awami League, formally inaugurated the league as the chief guest.
Bangladesh Hockey Federation’s (BHF) vice-presidents Abdur Rashid Sikder, Zaki Ahmed Ripon and Md Yousuf Ali, its general secretary AKM Mominul Haque Sayeed, joint secretary Mohammad Yousuf and league committee’s secretary Haji Mohammad Humayun and officials of the BHF were also present in the inaugural ceremony.
Twelve clubs– Usha Krira Chakra, Railway Sporting Club, Dhaka Wanderars Club, Shishu Kishore Shangha, Hockey Dhaka United, Mukto Bihango, PWD, Farashganj Sporting Club, Bachelor Sporting Club, Shanti Nagar Sporting Club, Combined Sporting Club and Rayerbazar Sporting Club — are taking part in the league, sponsored by Green Delta Insurance and organised by BHF.
